WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY
Fire
If the fire cannot be extinguished using available extinguishers or fire blankets, if possible, turn off the gas and electric supplies at the mains. Make sure all occupants leave the property as quickly as possible. Then call the emergency services on 999.
Remember never to use water on electric fires or hot oil.
Gas
In the event of a gas leak make sure the property is well ventilated by opening the windows. Check to make sure the gas appliances haven't been accidentally left on. If there is no obvious cause for the smell of gas then there may be a leak. Do not use any electrical appliances or switches. Do not smoke, use matches or exposed naked flames as it may cause an explosion. Turn off the main gas supply and call your gas supplier on the emergency number supplied in the welcome pack or in the Yellow Pages.
Water Supply
If there is a water leak turn off the water supply at the mains. If it is safe to do so, switch off the electric mains as well. Once you have done this, contact Yorkshire Water for advice.
